Games and programs in iDOS...

Postby SoryuDragon » 09 Nov 2010, 01:59

I know there is a list of games and other software that run or do not run on the DOSPAD forums. But here, I am hoping to see if others were able to get games/programs to run in iDOS. Because of limitations, we can not configure iDOS to makes all games/program run smoothly.

I'm hoping this would be a good place for iDOS user to share what games/programs they got up and running with the limitations of iDOS.
And as well, what configuration in the .cfg was used to achieve the smooth operation.

Even if they did not work, would be helpful. It is conceivable that others might be able to share tips or tricks to helps out the less fortunate.

:D

Welcome!

iDOS doesn't have a dynamic core, that may make the situation different from dospad in some cases. It would be great to have a list of games along with configuration specific for iDOS.

Hi I only just got this app so I havent explored trying new apps yet. But if you need a place to start looking for games to try or include in the app, http://www.abandonia.com/en is a good place to start.

Good one.

Here's mine (on iPad):

Theme Park - works fine but a little slow (very excited by this one)
Theme Hospital - very slow
Elite and Elite Plus - no problemo
Daggerfall - no dice; iPhone explorer showed the files on my iPad but iDOS didn't find them (maybe the 400+MBs?)
Legends of Kyrandia 2 - as above (but not super big, this one)
Ascendency - loaded but froze during intro credits, which...

...brings me to my next point,...

Is there anyway the developers could add a force-quit to prompt?

Now I'm keen to try Sam 'n Max, DotT & Discworld, if I can find them. I predict slower paced games will be the thing. That is if I can ever get off that bloody "Logic Factory" page!

Keep up the good work.

Cheers,
Nick

On iPad:

Good:
Lands of Lore (apply patch 1.21 first or you'll get a black screen after character selection, choppy videos)
Lost Vikings (Remapping of keys required)

Playable:
Settlers (somewhat choppy sound)
Syndicate (cycles=2500, somewhat choppy sound)

Unplayable:
Ultima 8 Pagan
Stonekeep (cycles=3300 seems to work best)
Command & Conquer (super slow, music keeps on jumping to the next track after playing it a few seconds)

If you manage to get one of them to run better, please let me know. :)

I managed to install and play Fallout 1 (DOS version with v1.3 unofficial patch) on an iPad 3. Movies, sounds and game animations work fine, but its too slow to be playable. I'm still working on ways to optimize the speed.

3d construction kit- sometimes it works fine sometimes it hangs or crashes
Never Winter Nights- works
Matlab-4/4.2c-both work (under windows 3) fine though I have not tried them with a compiler
Borland Objectvision- sort of works, but gets a slew of errors
Elite 2: the frontier-very very slow
Quake/Doom2-very very slow
Quest quake editor- loads
3d studio r3/r4- both work fine though are not very usable without a mouse
Imagine- takes half an hour to paint the startup screen and quite a bit longer to actually load the program, but works
DETH (doom editor for total head-cases) 4.2.4- loads but not really usable
Noctis 4-seems to work with only slight lag, but impossible to control without a mouse
Cosmology of Kyoto- (under windows 3) very very slow
SimPark/SimTunes- (under windows 3) installs, but win32s error keeps them from playing
nothing except freecell seems to work in win32s under windows 3 (error code 21)
network connectivity (not surprisingly) does not seem to work under wfw 3.11
